Our cat Alice is adorable and fun and silly. But she’s also wildly picky. She doesn’t like most traditional cat toys. You have to feed her different food every day or she’ll stop eating. And so when it comes to strolling through the Christmas kitty presents, I know most things won’t meet her high standards.
Like most kitties, she loves catnip, but it’s a mess. Enter my ingenious way to give her catnip without getting it all over the damn house. And while she may not understand the concept of Christmas presents, she does love when something new that she utterly loves shows up in her life.
Happy holidays to you and your furry love balls. Hope you have a wonderful, catnip crazed, season.
Have you ever seen such beautiful gift wrap that you thought: it would be a shame to actually cut, tape and wrap something with this? Well, that’s exactly what I thought when I saw this incredible English postal service pattern from Patina.
So, instead of using it for its intended purpose - I made a piece of art. Here’s how:
1. Mark the area of the paper you want to show with a pencil. Using your canvas, trace that spot on the back. This can be somewhat difficult, but hold it up and you should be able to eyeball it.
2. Use your spray glue to put an even coat of glue on the canvas and the paper. I used 3M’s Photo Mount Spray. I like this spray for these kind of projects because it’s non-toxic, safe for delicate materials like paper and is non-flammable. Place your paper carefully, being sure to avoid any creases or air bubbles.
3. Once you’ve got it secured, start to fold up the long sides of the canvas. Make a small pencil mark where you will then cut off the excess on the shorter side of the canvas.
4. Wrap each corner like you would a gift. Note how in the video, I folded all the corners up towards to the wood part of the canvas to avoid any bulky folds.
5. Give it one more layer of glue to secure all sides. Let it dry and enjoy!
Here’s some other great gift wrapping papers that would make stellar art on the cheap:
Anatomy of a skeleton paper
Hot air balloons wrap
Sweet treats gift wrap
You need:
One canvas
Wrapping paper
Scissors
Ruler
3M’s Photo Mount Spray
5 minutes to assemble
24 hours dry time
Total cost of this project: ~ $15 If you have the wrapping paper and the canvas. I use 3M spray mount on a TON of projects, so it may be worth investing.
